Ahh Nakra...cut-throats and thieves abound in this pleasant city of the underworld. Anything black market, murderous or theft-oriented can be found here in this port city on the eastern shore of Tasribin.
July 04. Remember to check places for traps and secret doors. If you are in the main castle of the main bad guy, you gotta know there are traps and secret doors. Look for them!
June 04. If you are an assassin you may want to think twice about attacking with both hands. When you attack with both hands you lose the AC of your shield. This is enough of a difference in attacks that every 2 or 3 attacks it's like the monster getting a free hit.
May 04. Remember that there are many GOOD thieves that don't just randomly steal things or kill people. Just like cops here, many people are trained in the art of thievery and use their talents for the purpose of good, not just for their own purposes.
Apr 04. If you have your Boots of Silence combine it with an Invisibility Cloak. This deadly combo can you get you in and out of almost anywhere. If the Invis Cloak is too much money, a good substitute is a Chameleon Cloak that just blends you in if you're not moving around.
Mar 04. Never underestimate the usefulness of Boots of Silence. These can really make all the difference when you are sneaking into or out of someplace. Plus, if you can turn them off when you're around other people, no one will know that you have them and hopefully are less likely to be stolen or taken if you are captured.
Feb 04. If you have a hobby in trap-making, take a few weeks to get some hobby points in trap detection. This will help you find traps in dungeons and maybe even learn some new stuff from the traps that you find. Also, check for traps often if you can. There can be traps in unlikely places and GM's like to punish people who don't think ahead about the traps they could run into.
Jan 04. Try a hobby in trap making. This will let you set traps to help keep you safe while you're sleeping at night and put out traps in dungeons to help stop any monsters pursuing you. Remember that setting traps right takes some forethought, so think carefully about what type of traps you will research in your hobby and how they will be used.
Dec 03. If you're an Assassin, check out Onin's full inventory of poisons. Poison can be many different things including paralysis, damage, holding, coughing, etc. Have your character take up a hobby in poisons and start looking for different herbs to make them. You can put some on the tip of your blade or arrows and use it that way. You could also have a potion made to put in people's drink. You can even try to make a poison bomb which will explode into a cloud of poison affecting all in the area.
Nov 03. Remember to thieve if you're a thief! If you're a Pickpocket, then pick someone's pocket! Take advantadge of any opportunities you have to do so. If you're a Burglar, then burgle! Stop by a ritzy-looking house on the way out of town for your next adventure and see what you pick up. Remember that not everyone in your party may agree with your thieving ways, so be careful if you have those types in your party.
Oct 03. Invest in a lock-picking set. It is not assumed that you have one in the game. If you say you try to pick the lock, you have a better chance of doing as a thief even without the lock-pick set, but you have a much BETTER chance if you have the right tools. Lock-pick sets can be expensive, so you may have to do a little thieving before you have enough money to buy one, but they allow you to take less time picking locks and have a greater chance of succeeding at it as well.
Sept 03. When playing a thief don't worry so much about your agility. Usually this will be your highest stat anyway, so if you get a chance to boost a stat, make it strength. One of the common problems with thieves is that they can hit the enemy easily, but rarely do any significant damage. A stat boost in strength, even if only temporarily for a battle (like the spell Strength cast from a wizard), can help turn you into more than just a distraction for the enemy during battle.
Aug 03. When playing a thief, be careful what armor you wear. Obviously you want tough armor, but sometimes the metal armor can be noisy. If you're trying to be a sneaky-type thief, stick with the Studded Leather and try to get it magically enhanced to lower your AC. You might also make sure that you have cure potions handy. If you're more of the upfront thief who likes a fight and using his skills more for traps and lock-picking, then go with the heavier metal armor to give you more AC.
